Cross-Validation

Comparing your visibility across ChatGPT, Perplexity, and more

What is it?

Cross-validation runs the same queries across multiple AI platforms and compares the results. Do ChatGPT and Perplexity agree on whether to recommend you? Does one platform love you while another ignores you?

Different AI systems pull from different data sources and have different recommendation patterns. Cross-validation shows you the complete picture.

Why it matters

Your customers aren't all using the same AI. Some ask ChatGPT. Others use Perplexity, Google's AI, or Claude. If you're only visible on one platform, you're missing customers on the others.

We've seen businesses with 85% visibility on ChatGPT but only 30% on Perplexity. That's a huge blind spot - and a huge opportunity.

What we compare

ChatGPT

The most widely used AI assistant. Strong in conversational recommendations.

Perplexity

AI search engine with real-time web access. Shows citations for recommendations.

Agreement patterns

Cross-validation reveals four scenarios:

Both recommend you

Strong signal. Your visibility fundamentals are solid.

One recommends, one doesn't

Platform-specific issue. Usually fixable by understanding what that platform values.

Neither recommends you

Fundamental visibility issue. Need to address core signals.

They disagree on position

You're visible but ranked differently. Shows where you can improve.

Side-by-side view

Gold tier gives you a side-by-side comparison showing:

  • Your score on each platform
  • How often each platform mentions you
  • What position you typically appear in
  • What each platform says about you (the actual language used)
  • Which competitors beat you on which platforms

Example

Metro Electricians ran cross-validation and found something interesting:

  • ChatGPT: Mentioned in 70% of queries, usually 2nd position
  • Perplexity: Mentioned in only 25% of queries, usually 4th position

The difference? Perplexity heavily weights recent citations from news and directories. Metro was on ChatGPT's radar from training data, but had almost no recent web presence. After getting mentioned in a few local news articles and industry directories, their Perplexity visibility jumped to 55%.

Cross-validation is a Gold tier feature.
